You take driver exam after exam as a young person and they drill into your head that driving is a privilege and not a right, but when it comes time to have the elderly scrutinized a little more, they scream bloody murder that their rights are violated. That reminds me of my mom. When she went in for a her license renewal once, she went through it all no problem. Right before they give you your new license, they ask you three questions. I know one is about your license being revoked in any other state, can't remember the third one. The one that was an issue was 'has anything medically happened in the last year to make it unsafe for you to drive?' My mom said yes. So he said he couldnt give her her license. She was pissed! I told her what do you expect? You said yes! After about three months, they decided that just one car for two retired people was ok, and sold her car.
I live surrounded by senior communities and I can tell you that I see hundreds of these over 80's driving, white knuckled behind the wheel and hardly able to see over the dash.
What's even funnier is our book says they must take an exam every couple years to prove they can drive and they're able to skip this with a mail in license renewal! WTF?
Good looking popcorn too.
