Cold tires, treads packed with snow = sled.
People don't realize they have no grip when the tires are packed with snow. They're virtually wheels made of ice. Also, those little SUV things are so lightweight they have no traction.
I found out today that on slightly damp roads you cannot made sudden stops with the mustang - I was daydreaming and driving, which is a no no to begin with, and my destination driveway came up suddenly. I hit the brakes and realized I was not going to stop so a quick look around and no one behind me or on the side allowed me to do a wild turn into the driveway. Wheeeeee! That was fun. I almost wanted to try it again when I met Matt for lunch
