I keep my pets out of the vet clinics as though they carry the plague. They are the same thing as hospitals to humans. If you want to die, get admitted to the hospital.
My now deceased Barney, never went to the vet. And the only thing he ever developed was a growth on his right paw. I did take him in then to have it removed, but he was twelve then, and it was the only time. He would have probably lived to be eighteen, but I accidentally backed up over him, and it almost killed me. I grieved for almost a year.
My current shih-tzu, CharlieK, has never been to the vet, and I intend to keep it that way if possible. I do my own vaccinations, purchase my goods over the internet, and keep him the hell away from the vet. My groomer even comes to my house, so I don't have to take him to a grooming salon where he can catch other dog's diseases.
