There is a similar ban at the school at the bottom of the hill
There was a compromise. The school provide the balls for the kids to play with at break. The kids have to 'book the ball out' for the session and it cannot be booked twice, so everyone gets a share and made responsible. There is also a designated area too so other kids can't get accidently hit while running about.
I can tell you it is bloody painful getting hit by a soccer ball when you are only 5 years old!
It happened to me at my village school, where there was only two classrooms (infants and juniors). The junior boys would take over the whole playground playing football.
I made the mistake of running behind the pile of coats (goalposts) thinking I would be ok, only they made a goal at the same time
