It wasn't my car. I freed the engine up for a friend. It was in a LeMans Sport and yes, he got a hood for it then did some fix-up and ran it for a couple years then sold it. Ran like a champ while he had it!
I have no idea what happened after he sold it.
About 15 years ago I related the same trick to members of the fire company I used to run with and they had success freeing up the engine on the 1946 Ahrens-Fox they had bought back from the Bloomsburg Fair Association. It had sat out in the weather since 1965 and was non-running since 1972. (A victim of hurricane Agnes) It's an ongoing restoration project but is in good enough shape now that it has been driven in several parades over the last 6 years!
Are you adding some Sea Foam to the gas tank as well as soaking the carbs?
