Definitely on older scrap bikes I'd salvage parts to do that with.
But mostly I would do that just for the fun of tinkering. I like to do that stuff. The only problem is that CL down here has virtually NOTHING for bike parts, stands, bits and pieces etc. That one guy with the hundreds of bikes all for $100/each still has the market on the bike listing on CL.
There's not as much nice stuff on my area as there is up by you. Here, once it hits Craigslist, it's mostly junk.
I keep relisting my couches and I've not had a bite yet. Not even to dicker the price down. Same for the sink. No one even calls.
The ads are very fluid in those categories too, I have to keep deleting them and relisting them to keep them on top of the list and easily visible.
