Here is a simple tutorial on how to buy a flat screen tv.
First question one has to ask themself: Will this tv fit my room?
This is the most important question. If you buy a tv too large for the room, you'll be seeing nothing but pixels. If you buy one too small, well, simply said, you'll regret it.
Ballsey's guide to buying the correct size tv.
Tip 1: Use the 2X method. Take the diagonal inches of the tv you wish to buy, multiply it by 2.
Example, I'm buying a 42 inch diagonal LCD tv.
42 X 2 = 84
Now divide by 12 (converting inches to feet)
84 inches divided by 12 inches = 7 feet
This is the minimum number of feet you should be sitting from the tv.
In this case, I should sit no closer than 7 feet from my 42 inch tv.
Tip 2: Buy the right tv for the room!
There is a huge difference between plasma, lcd and led tv's. Know the difference before you buy!
Plasma is good for rooms with large amounts of light. If you have a room with alot of windows, and alot of light comes in, Plasma may be the right choice for you. Plasma forces more contrast, thus making it a better display for the room.
LCD displays are an excellent choice for rooms without alot of ambient light. Being as the blacks are darker, there is not much need for illumination in the background.
LED displays are by far the most integrated tv yet. While there are still some liquid crystal throughout the tv, Light Emitting Diodes are what power the picture in this display.
My 2 X method of determining a tv size doesn't apply to LED tv's.
