Legislation on permitted breeds isn't necessarily the answer, but the bastards who break the law for the sake of fighting/abuse have a tougher time keeping their dogs now. You can be stopped on sight and asked to show evidence of breed for one thing, and we do have a lot of public-spirited people who would report someone keeping a dog and not taking it out for excercise. The downside of course is that when such dogs are "confiscated" they are invariably put down (euthanised). I find that the saddest part really...
Unfortunately, although we are a so-called democracy there seems to be a "nanny" attitude from whatever party is in government. If they can't solve a problem by passing a law, they try to pretend it doesn't exist.
