Rememberance Sunday was hijacked by the Fire and Rescue service.
I suppose it was the best Sunday to open the new Garden of Rememberance at the church, but the poppies (I always thought) was for the Military services so I wonder why the Fire service laid poppies at the new Flame memorial which was provided by the Southampton crew who lost 2 firemen in an apartment blaze in the city at the beginning of the year. One was a local man, but his family and family friends clearly were lost at the proceedings throughout the church service.
I noticed I got a few odd looks as I was helping mum into the car. The vicar abandoned the 'visitors' as he tactfully refered to them to dash out into the rain to ask after myself and the family. 21 months on and he is still looking after us.
