I should put this in the home improvement thread, but some day I'm gonna put a switched outlet in my kitchen, with the switch in my bedroom. That way as soon as I hit the alarm clock or wake up on my own I can flip the switch and have my coffee brewing, there will be a cup ready by the time I get down stairs.

But Twist' there is such a thing!
Hubby picked one up only last week where from I don't know.

Got home last night and press a button and the coffee machine started before I'd even finished getting the Fiat in the drive. The light was set on the display cabinet so we had light as we opened the front door and the TV was on as we climbed the stairs (actually someone forgot to turn it off).
There are a set of 4 plugs which can be remotely controlled. That's ok so long as the remote is where you want it-by your bed in the morning.
