He looks good compared to the description you gave.
He doesn't have snotty nose or runny eyes, so no "cold" (cats do NOT catch colds. it's URI or nothing).
You can start to lure him into smaller and smaller areas and catch him with a butterfly net. Grab him by the scruff of the neck and lower him back end first into a crate to the vet. But, the problem still remains that he's going to be unruly at the vets and impossible to deal with. He'll come around in time. They all do. Sometimes all you have to do is park a chair by his favorite lounging spot, grab a book and read for awhile and he'll come by you and let you pet him. Sometimes they'll even plop on your lap unexpectedly. Touching him comes right behind that. Try hanging out in the chair with one arm hanging down - see if he comes up to you and 'pets himself'.
