I was just afraid that my car would slip out of gear, break loose and smash the hell outta the other cars, pushing them over the side of the ferry into the water. Actually, that would have been pretty funny.
No1 son and Henry have to travel light, because Phil' has panniers he is taking Henry's clothes. He was fairly disgusted when Henry gave him a supermarket plastic bag containing :
1x Tee 1X boxers 1x pair of socks. NO towel, wash kit or shaving stuff (he has been shaving since he was 14! He grew a beard at 17 when his girlfriend left him)
He told Henry he would have to sleep outside on the 3rd day, which Henry pointed out they were outside since they were camping. Phil meant outside the tent
Cars and Ferries- I bet the ferryman have loads of stories. When we were on a ralley in Germany we had to cross on a specially commissioned ferry to Switzerland for a 3pm sailing. If you were late you had to wait for the public ferry later in the day. We got there ok although we had to re-set the points on a mountian road after going through a box of oddments at a lonely petrol station.
Anyway, 34 cars were loaded including a rather strange American couples car (well she was weird) who then went off shopping! He came back and got on the ferry and as we pulled away she was there jumping up and down on the quay screaming at us to come back. We didn't. When we off loaded there was a lone Saab 99, no driver, locked and impenatrable in the middle of the deck. Eventually it was discovered he too had got off the ferry and was with the American woman, with his keys.
Late that night they turned up at the end of the event together. He was Belgian and didn't speak English. That must have been a fun trip for them.
