What is 'slapping'?
Oh-yes, the phone companies are the Big Brother Mr Wells warned us about. The police are able to track every mobile call including who made the call to who. I still don't know how they knew Christine had texted her boyfriend at 7am and he texted back shortly after, other than when they asked him to confirm his number to them. They also knew when her phone stopped being active.
'Slapping' was a big problem here for awhile. Kids would video another kid being surprised, it started harmless, paperbag popping as such, but then it got nasty with kids getting beaten up on school buses and filmed.
The advert for the drink Tango had to be pulled because of it. Complaints came in from parents believing the ad' was encouraging it. If you don't know the advert, it started with someone buying a drink in various scenerios. The one that finally did it if I remember was a young guy comes out of a corner shop, opens the can and takes a swig. The vioce over implies he is being watched by a secret camera and gives a commentary like a sports reporter. Then a fat man painted orange in Sumo dress waddles up and slaps the guy on both cheeks and then waddles off again, leaving the guy looking stunned.
Tango changed it quickly to the Orange man still coming up to the young guy but giving him a big kiss instead.
After a couple of prosecutions it stopped.
