I figure he never gave a second thought to anything but cool looking wheels when doing stuff to the rear axle.
Geeze......even a good stock type rear end assembly wouldn't do that unless there was some loose parts or connections he just outright didn't tighten well. Maybe he used cheap assed bolts instead of high quality grade 5 or higher hardened bolts and nuts so they just sheared off after a bit of use.
