0 The Tomcat was taken out of service due to bean counters figuring that 2 Hornets could take care of the same job as a 14 and due to the aging airframes it would be more cost effective to do that than rehab more Tomcats or order new frames. What they failed to realize though was that the Phoenix missile system is not equaled by any of the current systems used by the F/A - 18.
