Call the nicest zoo closest to you. Ask for the curator's office.
My ex went to the NO zoo and the St. Louis Zoo. St. Louis wanted him to go with them to South America to get aardvarks and bring them back but he turned it down. Dope! We could have had a free trip to South America to some jungle. They also wanted to contract with him to do some enclosure work and he turned that down too - he'd have to stay in St. Louis for a month or so and he couldn't trust his partner not to fuck up the business while he was away all that time.
Hershey had a bear in the most deplorable conditions and the bison were starving to death before your eyes. The prairie dog town was too small, overpopulated and filthy. EVERY enclosure was absolutely awful and all made of steel and cement.
There was a zoo here attached to a pet store. I think it was in Bordentown called Animal Kingdom Zoo. I used to pass it when I would go get hay monthly. One day my friend and I decided to stop in on the way back from the hay run. We were absolutely disgusted! The cages weren't more than 8 feet across for most of the wild animals and they were just FREAKED out to no end. I had them shut down in a week. Turned out they were illegal to begin with and no one knew how they got all those animals to begin with.
It was a great advantage having that contract with the Philly zoo and being "in" with the curator there. I wish I never lost contact with him after my divorce, I would have been able to hook you up to talk to him about the stuff you want to report.
