This saddens me greatly. I lost two special animals in the last 4 years and I was a wreck both times. The last one I got rip roaring drunk and blamed myself. I hope you are doing better today.. They love us so much and unconditionally that is what makes them priceless in our lives. I can't imagine what I will do when I lose little Rufus to old age and I will probably come here if were all still around for comfort. Please take my sincerest sympathy with you as you look into a new year.. love you both.

So we picked up Goliath's ashes today. Aside from really nice wooden box to keep him in, we were given a paw print, cast in some odd spongy clay. As if that weren't enough to get the waterworks started, we also received a very heartfelt card from our vet and her staff. I won't even get started on that goddamn rainbow bridge! I hate that poem!

I'm sorry for your loss, it's been a tough week.

I swear the vet went above and beyond on this. She even left the dirt from his paw in that casting and I love that. The box is cherry wood and gorgeous. Inside the ashes are in a plastic bag and it is wrapped in green tissue paper. Really nice. There are cards and certifications as well.
I never cremated any of my animals and checked with my mom, she said none of hers that were done had this much when they came back. All she got was a cardboard box with the ashes and a bill.

It was really sad going in there because there were about 12 of those same green bags on top of the cabinet when we went in. It must have been an awful week for a lot of people.

Would you like to see the box and the foot cast?

As the tech handed us the stuff and showed the foot cast, that stupid Rainbow Bridge poem was in there and she says, "Oh crap, that stupid poem is in there, I hate that thing." The vet has the same sentiment. I showed it to Matt several years ago and he says, "Why the hell did you show me that? It's awful." through weepy eyes.

OK Twist - here they are. Not bad for what it cost us. I replaced that stupid poem with a photo of him. The box and cast are on a shelf high up where the cats don't bother. I stuck all the paper and cards in the box and "locked" the lid.
