It's my favorite zoo.Thats how the Tampa bay zoo was except the tiger enclosure and moat was huge. It's really a beautiful zoo. What I found strange there was that the Orangutan and other mokey exhibits didn't have a fence around it that would stop the animals from escaping. We were so close to a mother Orangutan and her baby and she was just staring at me. It was amazing, but I started to feel a little uncomfortable looking at her because I couldn't see what would stop her from jumping over and killing me if she wanted to lol? Maybe there was an invisible fence?

Remember, we used to have a contract with the Philadelphia, Cape May and other area zoos for fencing. They take the bodies to the lab and autopsy, even when they know the cause of death. I've seen some lab workers be downright fucked up the way they treat the corpses of the animals. One asshole made a marionette out of a money. Their opinion is "they're only animals, who cares? No one will see anyway." Yeah well, I saw. When they're done they incinerate the remains. The Bronx zoo had a very large open area like that for the apes too. The gorillas in particular got me upset. The place was awful. A dirt and rock pit and they all huddled on the central rock separated from the crowd by a dry moat and 3 1/2 ' high wall. They looked sad and miserable and they tried not to make eye contact with anyone. They would toss a rock at the crowd on occasion. The zoo at Hershey park was appalling. I actually made an effort to get hold of the curator at Philly and have him help me report them. He went out of his way to visit there to verify my complaints and we got a few animals removed for their safety. I haven't been back there since and I really hope they improved.

0 The Tampa zoo was really nice, I just don't know what was keeping them from swinging on one of those vines right into the croud of people. The mother Orangutan got up in her hammock to take a nap and the baby kept dangleing a string in her face untill she got pissed off and grabbed it from him, he was the cutest thing I've ever seen.
The New Orleans zoo was also nice and the Sanford zoo was disgusting. We were there for about 15 mins. and I started to get pissed off. They had the tiger in a small cage and he was just pacing back and forth, I didn't see where he had any kind of natural habitat. I really should contract someone about it.

0 Call the nicest zoo closest to you. Ask for the curator's office.
My ex went to the NO zoo and the St. Louis Zoo. St. Louis wanted him to go with them to South America to get aardvarks and bring them back but he turned it down. Dope! We could have had a free trip to South America to some jungle. They also wanted to contract with him to do some enclosure work and he turned that down too - he'd have to stay in St. Louis for a month or so and he couldn't trust his partner not to fuck up the business while he was away all that time. Hershey had a bear in the most deplorable conditions and the bison were starving to death before your eyes. The prairie dog town was too small, overpopulated and filthy. EVERY enclosure was absolutely awful and all made of steel and cement. There was a zoo here attached to a pet store. I think it was in Bordentown called Animal Kingdom Zoo. I used to pass it when I would go get hay monthly. One day my friend and I decided to stop in on the way back from the hay run. We were absolutely disgusted! The cages weren't more than 8 feet across for most of the wild animals and they were just FREAKED out to no end. I had them shut down in a week. Turned out they were illegal to begin with and no one knew how they got all those animals to begin with. It was a great advantage having that contract with the Philly zoo and being "in" with the curator there. I wish I never lost contact with him after my divorce, I would have been able to hook you up to talk to him about the stuff you want to report.

0 I've been to a few zoos and most of them were okay and had more than decent living conditions for the animals.
If it wasn't for my daughter who loves animals I would never go back to a zoo, unless the animals are an endangered species that needs protection I don't think its fair to lock them up. I know animals don't have the same feelings as humans but I have seen some pretty depressed looking critters in my time regardless of how nice their habitats were.

0 Tigers love water and sadly they didn't even have water for this old man to play in.
I wonder if the moat HAD water in it and they drained it for an overlong period of time and he was "missing" the water?
