GI JOE - 17th Knight - 08-20-2009 [review=GI JOE site=http://www.cisnky.com/images/blog/gi_joe.jpg cover=http://www.cisnky.com/images/blog/gi_joe.jpg] This review will be a little less involved than others I write as the movie itself is a little less involved than most. The simplest, and best way, that I can describe GI Joe is that by any credible standards of movie-making it is terrible. The dialogue is poor, the special effects are so-so, the acting over-the-top, the plot disjointed, and the characters 2 dimensional...and yet I absolutely loved every minute of it. GI Joe is what would happen if you took any random episode of the 80's cartoon, shoved live actors in place of the cartoon characters, and put it on a movie screen. To give you an idea of exactly what this movie holds for you, at one point two ninja blood-brothers battle each other in the electrical core of a terrorist base underneath Antarctica while their friends try to un-mind-control each other as dozens of super-submarines battle each other all while being fired upon by a death-ray. Seriously. That happens. And so, if you go into this movie expecting anything other than a delightfully nostalgiac look back at the 80's cartoon you will be disappointed. If, however, like me, you grew up on that cartoon, then you will absolutely eat up everything this movie has to offer. The best litmus test for if you should bother is if the idea of a live-action ninja battle between Stormshadow and Snake Eyes sounds like the greatest thing since sliced-bread to you. If so, go buy a ticket, right now. If you don't even know who those two are, you may want to hold off until video. So now you know..."AND KNOWING IS HALF THE BATTLE!" out of 5 for people who love the 80's cartoon series. RE: GI JOE - tatzgrrly - 08-20-2009 LMAO!!!you are soooooooooooooo bad~don't forget the scar on his face LOL RE: GI JOE - Twitchin Kitten - 08-21-2009 Oh you're right Spazzolina! Matt, did he have a scar on his face in the movie? You know, I'm like you with movies that suck but have a nostalgic value for me. I think I'm the only one who thought Popeye was a good movie. What did it for me for Popeye was the selection of actors to play the characters. Every one of them was dead on and that made a crap movie good. |
