Damn! I am good! - Twitchin Kitten - 08-19-2009

OK as you all know now the hole in the pool is patched and I'm refilling the beast now.

I discovered a great way to vacuum the pool while it was below the intake hole and needed a three way ball-cock (can you say that without giggling?) fitting to make the new vacuum fitting work and still filter through the intake when I'm not vacuuming.

We went to Home Depot on Saturday for all this stuff and I'll be getting a refund for a lot of plastic pieces. I need to hit the pool store for ONE fitting to match the one I already have to attach the hose to the filter. The one at HD is too big.

My design is much smaller than the one we had the store guy help us with but he DID know what I wanted to do! He just gave me overkill.

I will take a picture of the finished product once we get all the right pieces.

This pool is going to be the death of me.

When I think one thing is all good to go, another fucks me right up the ass.

Matt managed to tighten instead of loosen, a fitting that was leaking on the filter that needed to be refit with dope tape. Now neither of us can get it off and he destroyed the plug that fits into the fitting. Banghead

I JUST put chemicals in the pool and it NEEDS to run the filter. Banghead

So, wtf - I need to make a trip to the pool store now to get this all properly sorted. I hate going there. The original owner sold it to a bunch of morons and they are so useless in the help dept. Help

OK I managed to get that dilemma mostly fixed.
It's still leaking a little but it can wait till I finish circulating the water for the day and getting it vacummed.

I still need two parts to finish my contraption and then I can take a pic for you all to see my brilliance.

The problem with the leak today on this plug/drain hole is that the fitting the plug screws into has freakin' notches in it on the inside and the washer on the plug, as usual, is too thin and flimsy so when you tighten it, it buckles up and starts to leak.

I'm going to open it again later, toss in a bead of silicone and let it dry overnight. Then plug it up again. The bead of silicone will make a nice washer and leak-proof the damn thing.

ick..what a nightmare

RE: Damn! I am good! - Twitchin Kitten - 08-21-2009

Yeah but I got my own pool without having to share it with kids who pee in pools. Biggrin

The leak seems to have resolved itself with the fitting. It leaks when the filter is running but it seems to not leak with it off. The pressure inside the tank must force a little water through. I'll live with it for the rest of the summer and silicone it up when we winterize it again.

I still have to get that fitting and an extension so I can take that picture for you of what i did.

I've only got a bucket to put my feet in TK. I wait until winter when the grockles have gone home and go for a paddle in the sea. I don't swim in it, everyone pee's in it!

Well I finally got all the parts for my 'contraption' and tested it out and it works perfectly!

Next year I can get a different hose when the stores are better stocked so I don't have to keep that white hose attached to the filter at all times. But for now it works.

The white hose is to vacuum the pool. The silver one is for regular circulation of the water. That is a 3-way ballcock (can you still say that and not giggle?) and all I need to do is switch it to red to vacuum and switch it back to blue to circulate.

I attach the vacuum hose onto the end of the white hose you see in this pic:

and this is the overall contraption.

Nice Rube Goldberg rig-up TK!

As long as it works it doesn't matter how you did it.

RE: Damn! I am good! - Twitchin Kitten - 08-29-2009

Who's Rube Goldberg? *and don't say "some jew"!*

Yeah, I wanted to extend the vac hose and just slip it onto the fitting on the ballcock when I needed to use it but the white hose is just that hair too narrow to do that so I had to fit it on tight and clamp it down. Next year it will be 'cleaner' to use.
