Cops: Boston brides duped by wedding show scam

Monday, March 1, 2010 - Updated 4h ago

Boston police and the FBI say at least 6,000 brides-to-be and wedding vendors have been duped by a “non-existent convention” called The Boston 411 Home and Bridal Show 2010.

Advertised on Facebook and weddingwire.com as “New England’s biggest and most extravagant bridal show,” the convention claimed to be booked at the Hynes Convention Center March 5-7.

In fact, the Hynes is hosting the annual assembly of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine on those dates.

Pre-paid admission passes were sold for $10 and $15, and attendees were promised “a welcome bag of goodies” and “a chance to win fabulous gifts and prizes” on the show’s bogus Web site. The show’s contact number goes to a voice mail.

Authorities said the scam artists were also selling advertising space in the show program for up to $450.

Screw those foofy white weddings that charge an arm and a leg only to wind up puking on your wear once only white dress -

If you're not dressed as a pirate swilling rum on the beach with Capn' Morgan spicing up the ceremonies and performin' the services, well, what's the point?

That's a great scam and I have absolutely no sympathy for anyone that fell for it.

I also hate baby showers.

I hate going to weddings, and I'm with you on baby showers.

$10 or $15 isn't too bad to learn a little lesson...but i do feel for starry-eyed young brides-to-be who thought they were going to some legit big show, like the home show or something similar. the ones who paid $450. for ads have every reason to be pissed, but they should have checked credentials if they had any sense.
another reason i dislike shit like Facebook. it lends an air of legitimacy to crooks and predators.

I like weddings when the couple is truly in love. You can see it in their faces and I feel happy for them. Then I go home and shag like I was Austin Powers in the Playboy Mansion changing the flourescent body paint colors.

You are lucky my negative attitude is blemished by the DiGourno pizza in my oven for me and the Boy. Otherwise I would have given you a blood pudding pie piece of my muddled mind.:p

Weddings are so overrated it's disgusting. When DWT got pg before her wedding, she went from Bridefrickenzilla to Meh. I was relieved she wasn't such a pill but I still felt bad for her......
