Dorian Gray - webzdebs - 02-15-2010

The movie does lack a substantial story line and I definitely think that they may have chosen the wrong man to play Lord Henry, perhaps Stephen Fry would have been a better choice, that said it is one of the better adaptations of the novel.

It follows the story of a man named Dorian Gray who has a portrait painted by a very famous artist, everyone loves the painting and it is hung in pride of place in Gray's manor. However when Lord Henry begins to lead Gray astray he begins to change into a very different and almost evil man.

Years pass by and Gray does a terrible number of things but he looks just as young as he did the day the portrait was painted, he hides the portrait away because it shows his true soul, how corrupt and old and ugly he has become.

The film definitely had some high points and low points, it did seem to drag in parts but overall I think it was really great and definitely worth watching despite there being pieces missing from the book (obviously this has been done in order to translate it to cinematography)

I give it:

Is this a new adaptation? I remember the old 1945 version with George Saunders as Lord Wotton... you can't get better casting than that!

I went to look this up and see Colin Firth was cast in the role... odd choice, I can't see him playing anything other than a heroic figure.
