No matter whay I do, my cats keep scratching our sofas... I bought a scratch post and catnip but didn't worked! I'll have to buy new ones if this continues... :gah2:
They have toys, balls and a big yard, but nothing seems attractive to them to scratch on... help??
I tryied water but they seem to love it... Help

Are they scratching the arms?

If so, get some packing tape - clear - and put it where they are scratching. In time this area won't appeal to them and they'll stop and turn to something new.

Catnip does not appeal to all cats so you might want to get yourself a water bottle and set it to squirt them. Whenever you see them going near the couch, give kitty a shot in the ass with the stream of water. DO NOT SAY A WORD when you squirt them. Let them think God did it. In time they will get the message.

Packing tape is the best trick I found though. It does not ruin the fabric and it's nearly invisible. Cheap enough you can take it off when company comes over and replace it when they leave again to protect the couch.

Nope, not the arms... the whole back is torn, hehe. I tryied already the squirting, but it didn't work. They turned their heads around and continued scratching... after some shots!! They didn't seem to care... :S

Cover the couch for now. Put tape where they scratch. It's cheap and they'll get fed up with it being slick.

Cut their nails too! Get them used to having regular trims.
Throw something at them too! Pillow, slipper anything soft. The idea is to startle them and make them stop.

lol... slippers! I'll try that! And tape too...Biggrin Thanks!

Try making loops with duct tape so that you can stick it to the couch back and also to the floor behind the couch while allowing to have a sticky side up.

Cats hate walking on sticky things or for that matter even touching them. Thats how I got mine to stop going places I didn't want them to be.

Good idea! I'll try it too! Thanks!!
