I was all panicky today because Magpie was sitting on my mums lap with his tongue stickin out! Until I googled it and found it was a good thing and means he's happy and content - silly new cat owner! But now I'm jealous because he did it for my mum and not me!

No it's not a contented thing. It's just his tongue got "stuck" sticking out. My cats do that once in awhile too. Purely conincidence and you'll see it happen randomly over the years in both of them.
Purring is the sound of contentment in a cat.

Ah, precious little babies make me smile.
What cracks me up are the 'something smells so interesting that I'm going to keep my mouth open and drool' faces cats make.

Awwwww. He's a cute lil feller.
My cat Tazzy is constantly just sitting around with her tongue just barely sticking out of her mouth. It adds a bit of cuteness when they do that.

You aren't talking about what they call "flehming" are you? Where an animal will get a whiff of something and hold the 'pose' with mouth open and stay very still. This is to get a better, deeper smell of the thing interesting them.

Well either way, all I needed to know was that he wasn't sick again!!
He's also taken to sitting on his little butt like a human - too cute. He's all fluff and cute, Raven is all graceful, sphynx like cat - is that a boy/girl thing?
