*PHOTOS ADDED* Going to get some art culture tomorrow - Twitchin Kitten - 08-13-2015 Tomorrow I'm going to The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) to see the Van Gogh Exhibit before it leaves town. I haven't been here since I was in junior high and we can thank my asshole ex for that. But now it looks like it's going to be a gorgeous day and Matt's taking off to go. I'll post pictures. RE: Going to get some art culture tomorrow - Twitchin Kitten - 08-13-2015 Well this is really cool. The price of admission into the museum gives you access all week to the Cloisters gardens as well! Might make a two day trip out of this. RE: Going to get some art culture tomorrow - LKTraz - 08-13-2015 More bang for your buck! RE: Going to get some art culture tomorrow - twisteroo - 08-13-2015 I was thinking that that would be pretty cool and I could probably go myself, I mean if the place were down the road from me. Then I checked out the link, is that all he painted is flowers? Boring. Didn't he draw any horses or jeeps or anything? Will they have his severed ear there? That would be worth the trip. RE: Going to get some art culture tomorrow - Twitchin Kitten - 08-13-2015 OK you know he did more than flowers. They're only having the flowers here for this current exhibit for now. No they won't have his ear there. He is far from boring in his artwork. They didn't have jeeps when he was alive. There are other exhibits I want to see as well. So when it comes to art museums, for me it's always worth the trip. RE: Going to get some art culture tomorrow - Twitchin Kitten - 08-19-2015 So, finally I have some pictures for you all. We were not allowed to take pictures of the Irises and Roses exhibit I got yelled at for trying. Then the asshole smart mouthed me when I politely asked him why no pictures here but it's OK in the rest of the museum. I reported him. Fuck him. Don't sass me when I'm being civil. Anyway, I was a little disappointed in the place. It was more like a history museum and not an art museum. At least not how it was when I was a kid. We only got to see half of it too and never made it to the Cloisters. I was just too tired. I brought the wrong lens for the camera too. Too long. Was too hard trying to get it to focus so not so many pics as I would have liked. I know better for next time. The place was noisy and crowded too. What ever happened to keeping quiet to appreciate the art? Jesus it was annoying. The permanent Van Gogh exhibit had a few paintings too and again, so crowded. The tourists were just awful. Like a bunch of uncouth hillbillies. Countless assholes taking selfies with fine art. OK some of these you can click on and look at full size. You can see the description plaque in some and some I took a pic of the description plaque so click that and read. Let's start with the Arms & Armor exhibit. Really cool stuff and they changed it from when I was a kid. All the armor was up high in a dark room It's better now. The armor descriptions also include how much those things weighed. First pic here is Knights on Horses right in the middle of the room. Life size and if you notice they are two of the same image, but with a twist. Look at the bottom right corner for the two little girls talking. In the next one you can see them fist fighting! Pointy things for Vizzy: A proud boy! Henry VIII: A Sind warrior. This looks frightening. I wouldn't want to run into him! Some insanely cruel equestrian pieces: A Turkish ceremonial sword: A fierce bunny helmet - Japanese. Yeah, that's frightening! lol Some boobies for twist: This little guy was in the India exhibit. I don't know what he is, but he amused me and it took forever to get the camera to snap for this. This painting is called The Horse Fair (1852-55 by Rosa Bonheur). We sat in front of this for a bit looking at it. The detail is simply amazing. These people painted this stuff from memory because you can't get people and horses to pose like this while you paint. Besides it took her 3 years to do it. Amazing. It looks like a photograph. Another one that looks like a photograph. I stared at it forever. I really wanted to see more Chinese and Japanese paintings but I couldn't find any. I love Chinese and Japanese art. Here is a ceremonial robe and sword. The robe is just gorgeous and just my size! I would wear a coat like that all. the. time. Now for a couple of things from the permanent Van Gogh exhibit. It was so hard getting photos with all the selfie-tards in there. There were more than flowers, twist. I just couldn't get to them. Oleanders. Wheatfield with cypresses: Bouquet of flowers: and now for this bit. I dunno but this artist must have hated children. Just look at how he painted the shapes of their heads! Or they're just mutant kids? RE: *PHOTOS ADDED* Going to get some art culture tomorrow - twisteroo - 08-24-2015 More chick fight pictures please. |
