Sochi 2014 - Twitchin Kitten - 02-09-2014 Anyone catching the Olympics? I know you guys are not into sports but I like to watch the bobsledding and luge and hockey. Got some luge on today and goddamn if those guys are not batshit crazy for doing this sport. Especially the guys who run head first down the track. Shawn White the snowboarder tried a luge run and he said he wouldn't do this as a sport if it was the last thing on earth. This coming from a guy who does flips 30 feet in the air! RE: Sochi 2014 - LKTraz - 02-09-2014 There is a sled type event called Cresta. This was a small 2 runner type sled with a sliding pad that the sledder would lay face down on. The farther forward the sledder moved the pad, the harder the acceleration and if they slid rearward they could slow down a bit. It sort of resembles a standard kid's sled but has infuckingsane acceleration and speed! They run it on the bobsled course and can hit damn near 90 MPH if they have the balls to do it. They still run it at St. Moritz, Switzerland where it was invented. Barb found a few articles on it and it appears that they do limited events. It's also known as a skeleton sled. Now THAT'S the standard for batshit crazy! RE: Sochi 2014 - Twitchin Kitten - 02-09-2014 I thought they ran skeleton at the Olympics too? I have heard of that though. It's really sad to see the Olympics be such a failure in regards to spectators and out of town visitors. Stands are practically empty and so are the hills for the outdoor skiing and sledding events. Mostly locals/Russians and families of participants. Guest accommodations I've heard are atrocious. Yellow water coming out of the taps, cameras in bathrooms in hotels, mirrors on toilet ceilings and more. Putin wanted to make Sochi a new and favorable recreation / tourist resort town and it's failing miserably. Go USA! ![]() RE: Sochi 2014 - ralgith - 02-09-2014 I'll watch the Hockey on TV and that's about it. Ya think that attitude is showing itself? |
