Copper & Ripper Street - Twitchin Kitten - 08-03-2013

Both of these shows air on BBC America.

I'm really enjoying Copper. Set during the Civil War in 5 Points section of NYC. A crime drama and it's really cool to see the city "as it was" back in 1865. They have it pretty close too.

From the site page:
“Copper,” an American saga set in 1865 New York City, returns for a second season on the brink of Lincoln’s assassination – with shifts in politics and society altering the landscape for Irish immigrants and African-Americans. At the center, Detective Kevin Corcoran struggles to tame the wartime metropolis while wrestling with personal demons, including the betrayal of his wife and best friend. And when Tammany Hall’s outspoken General Brendan Donovan, returns from the Civil War to restore law and order in the Sixth Ward, loyalties will be bought and sold both uptown and in the slums of the Five Points as Corcoran, and those around him, fight to find their places in an unforgiving city.

Copper <-- clicky

Ripper Street <-- clicky

From the site page:
“Ripper Street” is a riveting new crime series currently airs on Saturdays at 9/8c. The eight-part series is set in and around Whitechapel in London’s East End in 1889, during the aftermath of the infamous Jack the Ripper murders.

I watch copper but when that little girl was, um well you know, that was hard as hell to watch.

Yeah it was. She's a little psycho too though. Tomorrow should be a good episode.

All the cobblestones in the streets from back then are still there under the asphalt too. Some streets downtown are still only cobblestone. Some of the old buildings still show cornerstones from the 1700 and 1800s. It's amazing how much of the old stuff is still standing amongst the new and renovated buildings, streets and parks.

Back then and right through the industrial revolution children were not so respected and cherished as they should have been. They were more like chattel.

You want to read something disturbing, try Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle".

pretty sure i can read the n***** crime section of chimpmania.com and see stuff every day that parallels or exceeds anything in that book, and I'm talking current events here.

I doubt it. It's not about crime.
