Frankenstorm - FreudianSlip - 10-27-2012 Anyone here in line of the supposed Franken Storm here on the East coast? I am in Western NY State, we are due for much rain and heavy winds, but I think that is about it. Should not hit here much until midweek, but it is cold and raining today. Everyone else, just batten down the hatches..and check in if you have power. Lets just light up a campfire, toast some marshmallows and wait it out. RE: Frankenstorm - twisteroo - 10-27-2012 It looks like Twitchy is gonna get hammered. I am also in the suggested path, but way inland like you are FS. I'm not worried, I'm gonna go wait it out in a bar. RE: Frankenstorm - Medicine Woman - 10-27-2012 We're going to get banged with wind and rain, but nothing like Irene. I'm pretty inland. RE: Frankenstorm - twisteroo - 10-27-2012 You said you are gonna get banged. RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 10-27-2012 We're busy preparing for the worst. Yard and out front tidying up anything that can blow around. Basement is another story RE: Frankenstorm - Rhubarb - 10-27-2012 What is this? Not a hurricane? I thought they sort of fizzled out around now- this one is very late isn't it? Are you sure you need to build boats yet? We have really high winds (double pegged the washing today) but it is bright and sunny and 'Bloody' Cold, since the wind is coming in from the Arctic (I have put in my complaint to the Norgies and they are knitting some socks as punishment) RE: Frankenstorm - twisteroo - 10-27-2012 This is part of a hurricane mixed with something and a nor'easter to create a frankenstorm. RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 10-27-2012 There isn't a generator to be had within 25 miles here. We have a busted one in the shed that the rental place will try to rush fix for us in the morning. Sears has a shipment coming but they are not sure when tomorrow and its' first come first serve and they already had well over 100 people asking. The little one we have is too small to power up the house, but it will keep the 'fridge going in case we need to worry about an extended electrical outage. I think we're in the direct line of fire here Tides are already close to the road level and the moon is close. You can see it brightly lit behind the clouds. It's friggin hot out too. I got the AC on We're better prepared with the animals though. Matt's work van will hold all of us comfortably if we have to bail out of here. He can make kitty beds on the shelves and we can bunk down in the center aisle. This is going to suck. RE: Frankenstorm - Gunnen4u - 10-27-2012 Generators only work when you have gas. Unless you plan on storing 100 gallons of fuel, well, they are largely useless in the long run. Getting water at my house is way easy, but we always have 100 gallons in a cistern, and we have enough food for two months, and military rations for another month and a half. At least you're armed against looters! Well, right? RE: Frankenstorm - Twitchin Kitten - 10-27-2012 Gas is not a problem. We won't lose power for more than a few hours to MAYBE a full day tops unless things go very badly. And no, the gun is at Smith & Wesson but I promise you, like your last prediction of looters when Irene hit last year, it ain't gonna happen. I'm fine without it for now. |
