Birds and Berries - HELP - Twitchin Kitten - 06-14-2012

Anyone here know how to keep birds from pecking at the berry bushes?

Matt was all kinds of excited that we had some red raspberries coming up and I went to look at it today and it's bird pecked!

Any tips to keep birds out of the garden?

Years ago we used to run string across the lawn with rags tied to it to keep the birds from taking the new seed. I don't even know if that worked.

Any advice that is known to work would be appreciated. We busted our ass on that garden and the yard this year and I don't want to have nothing to show for it!

Fine mesh netting pegged over them. Just make it is tied down tight (like a ridge tent)

Do birds like blueberries? If they do I will need some netting or a box of 6 shot.

Yes they love blueberries.

Rhubarb, do you do that for your berries? Do you have a photo? Does it prevent light from shining in?

My berries are all wild and free! Beee

(As in the blackberries are on the rough ground behind the house on council land)

I wonder if my dad has covered his raspberries? I get a picture if he has.

I have strawberries but its a new plant and only in a bowl this year (on the table to stop the piggies eating them!)

Lowe's and Home Depot should have that netting in their garden sections. TSC might carry it too.

It's a fine netting kinda like a fine mesh front door screen but looser. Put in a few stakes (higher in the center and decreasing height as you get to the outside) and drape the netting then secure it down close to the ground.

I've used that kind of stuff in the past with blackberries. My problem wasn't birds though. It was wasps.
