Pottsville police said a man killed his apparent girlfriend near the Social Security office in the 2200 block of West Market Street around noon. Investigators said the man then drove to the First United Methodist Church at 330 West Market Street, where he went into the church and killed himself on the church's altar. Police have not identified either victim. ___________________________________________________________ The daughter I don't have custody of lives in Pottsville with her mother. Her mom called here half panicked about it because her sister called her and got the story all wrong. Sis said the shooting was at the Career Link office (close to mom's house) and the shooter was holed up in the Garfield Diner with hostages. The SS office is on the other side of town and the church is a block from the diner. RE: This is just 18 miles from my house - Vizth Hal - 10-23-2009 holy crap RE: This is just 18 miles from my house - LKTraz - 10-24-2009 Here's what we know about it today: ___________________________________________________________________________________ *From WNEP.com* Two people are dead in what Pottsville police are calling a murder suicide. The man police said pulled the trigger was free on bail after threatening to kill his girlfriend several weeks ago. Police said Frank Manganiello of Schuylkill Haven shot his girlfriend in a parking lot just after noon, led officers on a chase, then shot himself inside the First Methodist Church on West Market Street. Authorities said 49-year-old Sandra Pucci was shot multiple times and died several hours later at an Allentown area hospital. Outside the church, the door of his red car was left open. Police said Manganiello killed himself at the alter using the same gun used to shoot Pucci. Across the street at the Garfield Diner, people watched. "I seen the red car come and him jump out and what I believe was a gun holding to his head and he was yelling at the cops and ran into the church," said Stephanie Lozada who works at the diner. "It's scary because you don't know what is going to happen anymore." People were in the church at the time of the shooting and gathered in disbelief. The church was evacuated. "The phone rang, we didn't answer it because the minister or the secretary takes care of it but it rang long and it was the chief of police saying there was someone in the church building with a gun and to get the ladies out," said Sue Runkle. "It's mind boggling actually because it's relatively a safe place to live. I mean, sure there is crime everywhere but it's a safe place to live and have something like this happen is almost unheard of." "Crazy, crazy. I guess that's the shot we heard when he was in there. I don't know what to say about that," said witness Cory Yerger. "I knew it was a gunshot when I heard it. Everybody else thought it was a bang and didn't make a big deal about it. I heard some shuffling around. I don't know if he ran upstairs or what happened after that. The police came in with shotguns. Everyone yelled, 'Get out of the building!' It's lucky he didn't come down stairs and hold us hostage." "We got to take some x-rays of victim to see where the entrance and exit wounds are and Doctor Bindie over there at the Pottsville Hospital over there will be performing an autopsy of the individual," said Schuylkill County Coroner Joe Lipsett. Frank Manganiello was facing charges that he broke into Pucci's house, threatened to kill her and did rape her. He was free on bail, when he ended his life and hers. The pastor of First United Methodist Church said he is planning on holding a vigil at the church Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Reverend Storm Hutchison said he plans to pray for both Pucci's family as well as Manganiello's. "I was asked, did he attend church here? And no, he never attended church here and I wish he had. I wish he had because then we would have had an opportunity to introduce him to God. That maybe would have transformed his life," said Rev. Hutchison. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Here's a pic of the guy: |
