The Weiner Dog likes Computers - Gunnen4u - 02-20-2012
One of the mini-dachshunds here, Lucy, is enamored with computers. There is nothing better that she likes to do other than cuddle up or play exhausting bouts of fetch than get on your lap and put her front paws on the desk to see what you are doing. She'll sit and watch me for over an hour click at stuff or do homework, etc. I sometimes fuck with her by playing youtube videos of barking dogs, but mostly she just sits there content to watch shit she doesn't understand. I have to close my door or she will walk in eventually and jump on my lap and do this.

Meanwhile, The Bear is more than happy to be dead weight on some old pillows we have given him. Poor bugger is arthritic a bit - I plan on picking up some eggshell foam to stuff his normal Cabela's dog bed with here shortly.

He used to be a real light sleeper. So much as fart in the next room and he'd come investigate then go back to sleep. Now, not so much.

I like to lounge with my laptop and my little female cat will sit next to me watching TV or games, she's got an amazing attention span. I found a hummingbird video that drove her nuts.
We're suckers for our pets.

What is it with guys and wiener dogs? Most guys like big, tough dogs but when it comes to these little dogs, so many guys dig the hell out of them. They are tough little bastards. I saw three gang up on a big ass GSD and one tore the nut sack off the GSD. Poor dog must have freaked let alone the pain.
Goliath used to be a very light sleeper too. Its sad watching the "decline", but if you think of all the good things with him, it's not so bad. Have you tried giving him some joint supplements? Drs. Foster and Smith have a whole line of products that I trusted. The first three along the top in the recommended box is what got Goliath through his last 6 years comfortably.

They have really good phone support too and you can call and ask a ton of questions. The place is run by two veterinarians and they develop their own line of products that are ace. Check out the useful links sticky as well, it has some good resources for all kinds of pet stuff.
I keep my dogs on yucca (powder sprinkled on food), Source (sea kelp product. sprinkled too) and the Joint Care 2 you see on the page. I found the combination to be a huge help with digestion, coat (your dog already shines!) and joints.

Despite being small dogs, I think the appeal to men is in their tenacity. I mean, the breed was originally meant to dig out and go after badgers (not known as a nice critter) as well as rabbits and other animals during various hunts. Lucy is a shy little sweetheart, but when she goes off, it's kind of funny in how serious she becomes.
They certainly are not stupid animals, Dachshunds (both large and small versions), and that is huge in my estimate. I hate stupid dogs, I just do.
They don't resemble other small *toy* breeds either and I mean, who can hate a weinerdog? Seriously? The fact they still look masculine despite the cute factor goes a long way in appealing to men I imagine. Archie is the male and larger than Lucy, but he is the softest thing I have ever come across, and just as fearless.
I was somewhat "meh" at first when my mom decided to get one (which she always wanted to have one), and more "meh" when she got another one shortly after, both as puppies. Then when I came home on mid-tour, I found two little furry things under the couch just staring death at me and growling (I laughed at first because it sounded like a car idling). I had to admire this display, and being snapped at a bit when I pulled them out and picked them up. We made friends about 5 seconds later and the rest is history.
I like these little guys. They aren't the first in my heart as that is reserved for THE BEAR (of which he is legend in various supermarkets, the pound and the hospital), but I love them very much.
I give him just regular glucosamine for now. I thought about getting a bit more intense with other stuff and I will take all that you posted into serious consideration for sure. He is still quite mobile and active for his age, I just need to make sure he doesn't overdo it. It's been decent weather around here, so I have been taking him on longer walks to lose some more weight and get him built up for summer very slowly. If he overdoes it, I have pain meds and muscle relaxer on hand.

I've always had dogs with spunk. Our first dog was a fox terrier mix and that dog was afraid of no one. We lived on a single, lonely block cut out of the woods when the "Guinea Gangplank" was first built on Staten Island. We used to get a lot of supposed door to door salesmen during the day and one guy got a bit fresh with mom. He put his foot in the door to wrangle his way in and mom opened the door and let Daisy chase his sorry ass all the way down to Arthur Kill Road. Small dog, big attitude.
