Should I get a new blender? - Aurora Moon - 10-03-2011

I've had this blender for a few years now, and it's shown it. the handle broke off, and I can't even use the tap add-on anymore since how it's broken as well.

however it still does the main job well, and that's to blend smoothies for me.

http://www.amazon.com/Back-Basics-SE2000B-500-Watt-Smoothie/dp/B000QA2IO0 this is the same type of smoothe maker I have, only expect mine's in blue.

So should I get a new one, even though the old one still does the job well despite the broken handle/tap part?

I'm thinking of trying the bullet or the Ninja one, but I dunno.. they might be way too overrated and not do a good job?

do any of you own a blender, and if so... what type would you suggest?

Stay away from plastic blenders.
The Ninja or the Magic Bullet stink. They break easily because moving parts are made of cheap plastic. Don't waste your money.

I have an older version of THIS ONE and it's served me well for years.

You want to have a glass bowl for your machine and you want to have as many metal parts or vulcanized rubber as possible.

If you like the machine you're using, see if you can replace the bowl instead of buying the whole thing. I found a really good site where you can purchase out of warranty, odd items for things. Got my new microwave glass rotating dish for about $25 from them.

Give me a little while to try to find it again... I seem to not have bookmarked it Sad

found this site too... http://www.mendingshed.com/ it seems to have spare parts for almost everything. Smile expect for the one part I wanted. =\

ah well.

Yeah, I'll find it - just need a little time since I obviously didn't save it Banghead

Wish I did! It had tons of stuff there.

If you wind up going out to get one, stick with an Oster brand. They've always been the best for me. The one I showed you I have over 10 years now and it's a workhorse. That Magic Bullet I had lasted me less than a year.

If you want to replace it then I suggest you upgrade at the same time.

The key things to look for are glass versus plastic container and as much metal in the drive mechanism as you can get. I just got a new one a few months ago and am very pleased with it.

It's a GE I got at WallyWorld. Sadly it has been discontinued. Look for something in the 600 watt range and I'm sure you'll be quite happy.

After looking around I think my advice is to just buy something new. The prices I'm seeing to replace the container isn't worth it compared to what you paid for that new.

I can't find that site for the life of me either. It's killing me now!

I know how you feel on not being able to find that one site. that's almost as bad as revisiting old favorite links and finding out those websites went down...

anyway yeah I think I'll just shop around at the local stores and see if I can find something solid and reliable.

Use your old one until it quits, then put a hand crank on it and keep it going. They love it when you spend money on stuff you don't really need.

heh. I may be a cheapskate sometimes, but a blender is one thing I definitely use everyday, for all sorts of things. so it's actually something I need.

I'm thinking of going with a hand blender, since how it seems to have so many pros, such as the fact that it would save me from having to wash a lot of dishes and the like. the only downside is that it's super loud when dealing with ice... but since I'm deaf, that isn't exactly a problem for me. unless it's at an loud pitch that even deaf people can hear.... Hubby is a Chef and he only uses hand blenders............he has 3 here at home and I just know he must have at least 2 at work! They are different sizes to cope with different jobs.

We picked up a blender very much like yours at a yard sale when our daughter broke her jaw and could only have liquid feeds. She hated all smoothies/shakes and soups after that! We sold it on for £1-
