IRENE is coming! - Twitchin Kitten - 08-24-2011 OK Anyone in the cone of uncertainty with Hurricane Irene needs to know the websites where they can find evacuation routes should they be in it's path. I got North Carolina and NJ. If you know more add them please. www.ncem.gov (NC) www.ready.nj.gov (NJ) I am not looking forward to this shit. RE: IRENE is coming! - LKTraz - 08-25-2011 The weather channel is posting all the addresses for evacuation info for all the possibly affected states. RE: IRENE is coming! - LKTraz - 08-25-2011 Go to TWC main page. They have links to all the sites. Just scroll down and they have them posted along the storm track graphics. RE: IRENE is coming! - Twitchin Kitten - 08-25-2011 Yeah, I got those links from the TV yesterday. My garden is screwed. The pool water will overflow and turn cold - swimming is over. I'll be lucky if my roof holds up. $3000 deductible for hurricane damages. Thanks assholes at the insurance company. They're dropping us after this year expires too. Got a ton of shit to stuff into my shed. Got to take flags down. Where am I going to hide my car from the trees!! I don't even have the permanent plates yet! It's possible that thing is going to get close to you too LK. LH is going to get hit up in New Hampshire - a rare occurance! This is going to be Matt's first full force hurricane too. I think the last one he had been through was when he was still in the Navy and that was what was left of Andrew. The weather is saying how Gloria was the last one to hit this area that was this strong/big and it passed over Long Island. Dopes, no way. I was there, the eye passed over Staten Island. That's when we found that man hole sized snapping turtle washed into the road and saved it! I so do not want to deal with this. Small hurricane easy - this one is totally inconvenient and we are broke this week too! I barely have enough money to go out and buy water and supplies should we lose electricity - which we will. I need 4 cat carriers in case we have to evac! Goddamnit I knew I shouldn't have put that off time and again. Worse case we can chuck all the cats loose in the Mustang with the back seat folded flat so they can use the trunk for space and the back. I can chuck a litter box in there too. Daisy and Matt can take the truck and all waterpoof supplies in the bed of it and head inland for a few hours. So, I get the job of taping up windows and taking down moveable items in the yard today. Matt does more tonight and then we sit and watch the weather channel for the storms track. I'm hoping that northern trough sends it farther east than they're saying. RE: IRENE is coming! - Twitchin Kitten - 08-25-2011 Shit. This bitch looks like we're going to be directly in it's path. We're going to have to evacuate. RE: IRENE is coming! - JohnWho - 08-25-2011 Yeah, I've seen where they are moving the projected path a little to the west (left) which means it may effect a lot more folks on the East Coast. "Live" link: RE: IRENE is coming! - Twitchin Kitten - 08-25-2011 Yeah, I've made my list of things to shut off in the house, what to unplug and what to pack with. I'm on my way out now to grab ice and cat, dog, people food, extra litter for the cats and lots of water and wet wipes to wash ourselves. Nuts and other non perishable foods so we can have protein and nutrition. Too bad Matt doesn't have PX privs - I'd load up on MRE's! Nutritious and compact to carry along. Probably nasty tasting but hey, I survived hot lunches from school. Got blankets in a space bag and all flashlights and meds at the ready to pack. Put my insurance papers and mortgage / house deed papers in water proof bags too. Just in case. I think I'd rather do all this preparing for nothing than have to wade through filthy water and debris because I didn't prepare. RE: IRENE is coming! - Twitchin Kitten - 08-25-2011 OK the stores are packed and I haven't even hit the supermarket for food rations yet. I got 3 cat carriers and need one more. Hoping the PetSmart where my allergist is has the last one for me tomorrow. Matt just went to Artie Lange's house to batten that down for them! HEY! what about us? he'll have to do this house later tonight. We are seriously considering bugging out to his dad's in Michigan - animals and all. There's no place here for us with all the animals and I will NOT leave them behind. RE: IRENE is coming! - Rhubarb - 08-25-2011 OMG Is it that serious! RE: IRENE is coming! - Twitchin Kitten - 08-25-2011 Yes, it's that serious. Matt's dad says we're good to go if we decide to head out that way and LK said we're welcome to his Ponderosa as well. If not, then we just drive west until the storm passes and head back Monday. |
