Hooray for Rio De Janeiro - Twitchin Kitten - 10-02-2009 Today the Olympic committee chose Rio to be the next home of the summer Olympic games for 2016! I was rooting for them. They are the first South American city to host the games and I think this is only fair. It's a beautiful city and beautiful people and I think this is a good thing for them. They're celebrating in the streets now and it's well deserved. ![]() RE: Hooray for Rio De Janeiro - obycencio - 10-03-2009 I went to the panamerican championships on 07 there and I wasn't really impressed... Terrible weather (it was winter there). A lot of traffic and the distance from the hotel to the stadium was unbelievable. I loved the people tough. But the organization wasn't good. RE: Hooray for Rio De Janeiro - LKTraz - 10-03-2009 This marks only the 3rd of the modern games to be held south of the Equator. As well they will be the first southern hemisphere games not hosted by Australia. Those were the 1956 games in Melbourne, Australia and the 2000 games in Sydney, Australia. Congratulations Rio De Janeiro! RE: Hooray for Rio De Janeiro - Twitchin Kitten - 10-03-2009 I think it will be much better for the Olympics, Glo. They Olympic committee oversees a lot of the preparations and the construction of the Olympic Village. There is a known shortage of hotels in Rio but they said they have the funds to remedy that for the games. Winter - schminter! I'd rather have the summer games in Rio's winter than have my own winter! I think this is a big hit for Brazil too. It's an up and coming world power and deserves to have good things come to it and it's people. I think Obama was being a pompous and arrogant ass vying for them to be held in his hometown of Chicago knowing it's to be a "first" for South America. He of all people should be for "firsts" of anything! It just seemed greedy to me that he would fight so hard begrudging them this joy. I also like that it's one more notch in his "never got it done" belt! ![]() RE: Hooray for Rio De Janeiro - LKTraz - 10-03-2009 (10-03-2009, 02:48 PM)Twitchin Kitten Wrote: I think Obama was being a pompous and arrogant ass vying for them to be held in his hometown of Chicago knowing it's to be a "first" for South America. That's what you get for traveling around the world and apologizing for how bad the USA sucks! ![]() RE: Hooray for Rio De Janeiro - obycencio - 10-10-2009 I know they will try to improve things a lot. I hope they improve the quality of the entire city too. Most of the buildings needed to be repaired and only a few were in good conditions. Go Rio! ![]() |
