Meet my new kitty - twisteroo - 04-23-2011

This is my new kitty, he moved into the basement cage with the rest of the cats. Notice how comfortable he has made himself.
His name is Rocket.

OMG He's great! I'm surprised the cats put up with him.

If you can get him to be your friend, raccoons are a blast as pets!

Just make sure he has water next to his food. They don't have salivary glands and they must dip their food in water to eat it.

He just kind of moved in and needs to start think about moving out.
He has a bad back foot or I would have given him the bums rush a couple of days ago.
I don't feed him, I don't put food in the cage for the cats any more either. He must go outside and steal cat food like a respectable raccoon.

How bad is the foot? Does he go out to eat at all?

If he doesn't that foot may have him very sick and I'd keep the cats away from him.

RE: Meet my new kitty - twisteroo - 04-23-2011

It's a back foot, he goes in and out and gets around, he just don't use that back foot.

He doesn't seem sick or lazy or anything at all, he's very alert and seems to want to stay in the basement all day and head out at night. I mean he seems like a normal healthy coon, just has a gimpy foot.

Used to be a time when I would have just disposed of him without a second though, but I will wait till he is outside and just close the cat door off so he can't get back in. I'm sure he will move out to the barn or something.

Oh keep him and make him a pet.

Get him the rabies shots and you'll be fine.

When he's outside in a place that you don't need to clean, give him a bag of flour to play with - they love it!

Did I ever tell you I had a pair of pet raccoons for a time?

That I have got to see!

What sort of Racoon is it? Are there more than one type?
