London to Brighton Run - Rhubarb - 03-22-2011 The paperwork arrived in the post. No1 son began reading the form out a loud over to dinner to us. Stirling Moss (now recovered- didn't know he was ill) will have a photo taken with your car at the start at no extra charge (whooopy!) Starting at Brooklands Classic's will follow one 'scenic route' and the kitcars and sports will follow another with a one point of stop. Blah Blah Blah. There are photo's included in the application form of last years entries and it all looks very appealing. No1 son scrutineers the rules ![]() ![]() All entry vehicles must have been registered with the DVLA before 31st December 1986! Rene the Renault qualifies! ![]() He is at his mates house making plans. (Haven't told him the entrance fee is £87) ![]() RE: London to Brighton Run - Twitchin Kitten - 03-22-2011 Is this some sort of rally race? RE: London to Brighton Run - Rhubarb - 03-22-2011 You don't know about the London to Brightons? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_to_Brighton_Veteran_Car_Run They started when cars were toys for the rich during the Victorian era. It started by just getting your car from one to the other place at all! Then it began as a race as the cars got bigger and faster. Then it got banned because people were getting hurt so Brooklands became famous for racing. In November the official London to Brighton runs even now. The cars HAVE to be pre-1910. So there aren't many now and most come from museums or private collections. It is great to see them. We been many times to watch them steam in (some run on steam!) There are several runs throughout the year, but they have to be approved now and come under strict Police guidance. The Mini clubs runs one as does the VW campers and the Scooters (remembering the 1960's with the Mod's and Rockers). The Classic and Sports have only been running for a short time and most cars enter for charity. Have you ever seen the film Genevieve? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genevieve_%28film%29 RE: London to Brighton Run - Twitchin Kitten - 03-22-2011 I am going to look for Genevieve on Netflix! That London to Brightons sounds like great fun! I don't think we have anything like that here. Ideal for a wet Sunday afternoon when you feel a bit down in the dumps. RE: London to Brighton Run - Twitchin Kitten - 03-23-2011 It's not available on Netflix yet! I'm going to try Hulu and other sources. |
