Finally! A new TV - Twitchin Kitten - 03-08-2011

OH man we got the deal of a lifetime tonight!

So, Sears raised my credit limit this week and to celebrate, I said we should buy a new TV. Matt's the AV guy and we still don't have a modern TV. We just kept waiting for prices to go down and then new technology comes up and we say, hey! Now we want that LED instead of LCD - plasma was nixed five minutes after it came out.

So I've always been a big RCA fan. RCA didn't have any flat screens out until like last year. They were a miserable flop. But now! woo hoo - they got something really nice.

Sears and Kmart carry them both. BUT - Sears didn't carry the 47". We couldn't decide on 42" or 47" so we left Sears an hit Kmart. They had the 47" for - get this, $799.00 Shock

They had the 42" for $649.00!! So we went home and had a look around the house, did some thinking and searching and decided on the 42" because the room is very small. Hit Kmart because it was "cheaper" and when we unpacked it, noticed it's a very different TV than the one we looked at in Sears.

Matt calls them - Sears that is and gets the salesperson on the phone. It turns out that we got the BETTER model, cheaper from Kmart! Yahoo

He's inside setting it up now. I'm working all day in the basement, and will be more tomorrow - just to get my antiques back upstairs. He's ordering a wall bracket and we'll be set up nice here!

I feel so modern now!

Now you DO realize that RCA, Phillips, Magnavox and GE televisions are ALL manufactured by GE right? Even though they will have different warranty policies which is due to the company name on the unit and there are some design differences, GE does the actual manufacturing.

Not that it really means much. Just food for thought.

Nice TV! DO get an HDMI cable to hook it up with, it's worth it!

Do you watch a lot of TV TK?
Even though the summer hasn't even arrived I realised I haven't put the TV on since Sunday.
We did go to the cinema though yesterday to see 'Paul'.

erm... Matt installs these things, along with full on home theaters for a living. Yes, we are fully hooked up and integrated into the stereo system.

RCA is in partnership with GE and has been for a long time... check it out:

We watch a good amount, especially at night. We like to watch a lot of movies and we're at the point we'd rather watch movies home than in the theater.

Well, I must be the last hold out. I'm the last guy in America to have my old Sony with a picture tube and everything.

So what does everyone do with their old TVs?

RE: Finally! A new TV - Twitchin Kitten - 03-09-2011

My old RCA was bought in 1996 and it still works great.

I called Dave next door and asked if he knew anyone who wants it for free. No one is going to buy it with all the new ones out there.

I'd love to go to the top of a building and just drop it off the roof for grins and giggles. BOOM! Giggle

Mikki likes it too. She has a ball watching hockey with us. She can follow the puck pretty good too! I'll have to take a little video of her for everyone.

Nice!!!! I am torn between the 42" and the 50/52" (not sure what exact size is) How does the size feel TK? How far do you sit away from the TV? Does it feel like a theatre?
