Well behaved - Rhubarb - 09-14-2009 No1 son came home on friday. I think we are in a for a rough time in the next few weeks. The skirting boards in the hallway are suffering the most with the wheelchair. The guinea-pigs have in turn been brought in to see him and they have either sat in stunned silence or as in Shelby and Cosworth wheeked and bounced about on the bed in delight. Last night we had to call the paramedics out twice. The first resulted at midnight with Eskie the hamster sitting sorryfully on his platform watching the to and fro of the medics. When we finally returned to bed, with Philip comfortable again, Eskie too went quietly to bed. Second call at 7am there was Eskie, worried as ever, paws together, waiting patiently. When I gave him something to eat he carefully took it and still waited. I ran out to feed the 'pigs and they must have known something was wrong, not a peep out of them, accepting the vegtable offered to them. As the medics took Philip out to the ambulance, he said 'See you later, Eskie' and with that Eskie picked up the food I gave him and went to bed. We got back with Philip at lunch time-hopefully- a better night tonight. I forgot the fish, better go and find out who ate who. RE: Well behaved - Twitchin Kitten - 09-14-2009 That's so cute - they've been worried about Philip! What did he do to need the medic twice and is he back home? RE: Well behaved - Rhubarb - 09-15-2009 Three times now! Bless Eskie, he got up and worried on the platform again. Philip started getting breathing problems- which could become dangerous after his accident, fat embolisms from the compound fracture. He is on injections to prevent clots, but his breathing was very laboured, so I called an ambulance when it first started at midnight, because I didn't know how to help him. They came at once gave him a nebuliser and oxygen and he settled again. Then he got bad again a 6am but he didn't call us on the internal phone until 7.30, so as instructed I called the service again and they came at once and this time after getting his breathing normal they took him in to A&E. They couldn't find anything so we brought him home. Friends came and sat with him and my parents did the last hour so both Mark and I could go to work. Again his breathing got bad but by the time he'd eaten his evening meal he was ok again. Mum and Dad guessed he was ok. We got him to bed early (we were soooo tired) but at midnight he called us again and he was really bad this time I'd called 999 the minute I walked into the room and then got some steam going for him. This team had a student with them and she realised she had assisted at his accident! So they knew the history from the start and were able to tell us about what happened even though they didn't actually take him to hospital another ambulance crew did. They nebulised him again and said our own doctor was to call the next day. They stayed for what felt ages, chatting to him asking how he got on in the last 3 weeks and although catching up and (chatting him up!) both girls in the crew discussed the history with the paramedic with them and decided it might be his bed! An allergy to dust mite, the bed was going to be thrown out just as he had his accident. He told them Shelby and the others had been on the bed but I took the blanket away after Cooper had a mishap. So hopefully, a full night sleep tonight. Eskie would like that too.:gah2: The fish are fine RE: Well behaved - obycencio - 09-20-2009 I'm sorry to hear that about Phillip... I hope he gets well soon. And that's a lovely story! RE: Well behaved - SarahK - 09-21-2009 What sweet animals! I hope Phillip starts feeling better soon! |
