Steam and Gas show - twisteroo - 09-10-2010 Today I snuck off and went to the Gas and Steam engine show, I should have been doing other stuff, but this is only once a year and I have not gone in a few years. Nothing like a good lung full of coal smoke to set your mind right. This stuff is from when men were men and the sheep were scared. Look at the effort I went through for you guys, YT and everything. Check it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRRK0dQKdGU And the 10,000 pictures. http://s837.photobucket.com/albums/zz295/twisteroo2/Steam%20Show/ RE: Steam and Gas show - Twitchin Kitten - 09-10-2010 That's pretty cool. We stopped in a diner in some bumfuck town in Wisconsin on the way to Sturgis and there was an old man in the lot with a big green tractor with a fat stack on it on his trailer. He fired that baby up with a bullet. Was really cool. RE: Steam and Gas show - Twitchin Kitten - 09-10-2010 OOH, It looked like this one you took a pic of! ![]() RE: Steam and Gas show - Twitchin Kitten - 09-10-2010 I like the Maytag Speedster! ![]() RE: Steam and Gas show - twisteroo - 09-10-2010 There is everything and anything there, they just drive tractors and dozers and stuff all over the place. It's a wonder someone isn't run over. Old time sawmills, pumpkin cannons (I got to shoot one), people off the earth, aww hell, why church it up? Hillbilly's galore. Old farmers, young whitetrash. There was exactly zero hillbilly girls there though, and one MILF. That tractor in the video, yeah, I almost shit myself when he blew the horn. RE: Steam and Gas show - kbear - 09-10-2010 That is cool! We went to one down here and one when we lived Wiscosin. It is really cool to see. I like when they make the ice cream with the old engines. MMM Good!!! Things like that bring out the best poeple watching!! RE: Steam and Gas show - Rhubarb - 09-11-2010 This show finished last week. It's an annual event. I stopped going when they moved it from Stourpaine. As teenagers we would go up squashed in as many cars as we could muster and go to the night fair and see the engines light up- brilliant! The last time we couldn't afford to get in. Mark took the kids in to ride the Steam fair on my entrance fee. I sat in the car and read the paper ![]() http://www.gdsf.co.uk/attractions.aspx It is an amazing event, you would need all five days to see all of it too! RE: Steam and Gas show - twisteroo - 09-11-2010 Wow, Rhubarb, that looks way bigger than this thing held in a field in a small town. I was pleased this year to see about 6 of those big tractors there. Those are the real stars. The ones in my pics aren't really made for hauling or anything, they were just on wheels to move them from field to field to hook them up as a power supply. Or at least that was my understanding of them. RE: Steam and Gas show - LKTraz - 09-11-2010 We have an antique tractor and farm equipment affair at the Gratz fairgrounds every year. There's LOTZ of steam powered equipment on display and most of them are in operating condition. One of the big steam tractors is owned by a guy that lives right next to the grounds and I've seen him use it to power some equipment for the Amish farmers. Any of them with a big flywheel about 3 or 4 feet diameter and 10 - 15 inches wide are used for that purpose. He mostly runs a big baler with his. The Amish will haul up beside it with a wagon full of loose hay and fork it into the machine. He makes a few bucks from them for his time. RE: Steam and Gas show - twisteroo - 09-12-2010 One of the huge farmers around here as an old time farm days event every fall. I guess he has quite the collection of stuff. I should really go to that some time. This guy even has a friggin zoo. I went to grade school with a couple of the kids, at that time they were milking over 300, now I've heard that they milk over 1,000. http://www.hiddenvalleyadventure.com/ |
