State Fair - Jamminitin - 09-01-2010

Wasn't sure where this would belong, so move it if you need to TK.

Does anyone have a SF where they come from?
We have a HUGE one in MN. It's all about the food. Deep fried Twinkies, chocolate dipped bacon, deep fried alligator, turkey drumsticks, corn on the cob, pronto pups, deep fried snicker bars just to name a few.

I haven't been in close to 10 years but it's a beautiful day and I am trying to con the old man into going. If I make it I will take many pix of all the fairgoers. The people watching is even better than it is at Wal-Mart.

We have county fairs here. I am not sure if NJ has a state fair. I haven't been to a fair since 1990. My stomach aches just reading about the food you posted! Barf
That stuff is heart attack on sticks! But too greasy for my taste and some are just too sweet.

Take pics though! It ought to be as interesting as my boardwalk photos!

Not too sure where this belongs so I'll keep it here.

I bet it is like the boardwalk!!! Lots of freaks.

I could never eat that crap either. I would be spending the day in one of the satellites.
There are also 4-H shows, craft competitions, canning/cooking competitions, DNR building, health and wellness stuff. Tons of carnies, on-site radio shows. The list is endless. You could go all day and not see everything.

They even have the "Dairy Queen" and princesses faces carved into 22 pound blocks of butters.

Oh I heard about the butter carving at your fair! Gotta love the food channel for shit like that!

Kim has a big fair by her in N. Carolina. She enters her crocheting every year. She does very well too!

No state fair in PA but many county fairs. The biggest is the York Fair. Damn thing is HUGE!!!!
The grounds are about a little over a square mile.

The equivalent of a state fair here is the Pa State Farm Show. It's an indoor affair in January at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg (state capital). You always know it will snow during farm show week Tongue

We don't have a big fair. It is a just a small one. The state fair is 2 hours from here. I hope someday to enter in the state fair. But I can't see driving 2 hours to take the stuff and then 2 hours back. And then do it all over again to pick up the stuff. Oh, and then 4 hours if I want to see how I did.

So I guess I will stay with my small little fair.
Ok, back to my doily for the fair.

You could always stay overnight at the State fair Kim!

It's these Fairs that stop my Aunt and Uncle visiting before October Tantrum

My Aunt enters canning/bottling and preserves and sets up the Painting exhibition. She usually does well in the food side but doesn't enter the painting because she often is judging herself so it makes it difficult, so she just shows (and sometimes sells).

I think my Uncle should win the pumpkin entry again this year. He is having to get the local garage to come down with a crane to move one!

I've been to the NY state fair a couple of times. I got to go because of work and even got a days pay. We used to enter butter and we'd get to go to pick up our medals if we won. Those are the only times I've gone, I don't go to county fairs any more either. They are nothing but big whitetrash conventions and the state fair is the grand poobah whitetrash convention. All the little fire depts have carnivals all summer too, those are just little whitetrash conventions.

Somewhere I have pictures of a couple butter carvings.

Off subject, but I got to go to Wisconsin one time to the world cheese convention.

Going to the fair on Friday!!! Drinks

Will be posting WT, food on a stick and maybe a butter carving or two. Usually don't make it to the dairy farm but will try this year.
