The driveway thread - twisteroo - 08-11-2010

I have made mention in other threads about having some driveway work done, all I really wanted was a load of stone spread on my driveway.
Well this is what the bastards left me with. It's a goddamn outrage I tell you, and outrage!!!

Damn nice paving job there Twist!

What kind of buckaroonies did that set you back?

I bet it cost him a lot less than they're going to charge us here.

Looks very nice Twist.

Um Fool
Do I guess that is not what you thought you had paid for?

It looks good now, but how will it stand up to your weather? I do also think it looks really nice and it's a lovely place you have there too.

We have a concrete drive with lightly gravelled front, nothing too heavy or the bikes can't move over it! You can't see it for the vehicles, but its been under there for 22 years now.

It was somewhere around 4k.

I'm hoping it holds up OK, there really are not that many concrete driveways around here, most are blacktop.
Hopefully within 15 years I'll be retired and moving to Wva anyway, so as long as it holds up, along with my new roof, and new furnace, and new and new and new......hell, I oughta just keep this place.

Wanna see my roof???

This is the front of the shack, back in the spring time.

How do you like the metal roof? Is it annoying when it rains? We're going to need a new roof soon and they make all kinds of nice decorative metal ones now.

I like your place (does it have a veranda?). I'd like to move from here. I was desperate to move last year but now I'm ready to just start 'de-clutter' so when we see something we like we can actually do it in one van load.
No1 son wants to buy this place- he believes his sister is still here.

So far the steel roof is fine, it is not annoying when it rains. Everyone thinks of pole barns when they think of steel roofs. The difference is pole barns had nothing backing up the metal, your house roof still has the wood and that dampens all the noise out. My roof has 1 inch boards that was covered with plywood, the steel really doesn't make any noise at all, also there is a full attic up there too. Steel isn't the cheapest way to go but it will last a hell of a long time, or so they tell me.
I've found that 20 year shingles are good for about 15 years if you are very lucky, they tell me the steel is good for 50 years. I put steel up on my barn myself maybe 10 years ago, not the best job but it does the trick, anyway that is about 10 years old and looks like it was put up yesterday.

I don't know about a veranda, but we have a small deck off he back, mostly taken up by the hot tub that hardly ever gets used.

When I was married our company built pole barns, so it's safe to say I wasn't thinking about that. I was thinking of a friend's house who had a tin roof that made a ton of noise. It was old and they probably did a shitty job of it. The barns we built were quieter.
