My father was part of the invasion force (third wave). He said that by the time he hit the water when he left the landing craft that the sea was tinged very red and they had to push the corpses of the fallen out of the way in order to get to the beach.
I am very grateful to those who fought against and ultimately defeated the Axis forces.
