RE: April 17th---Nothing Like A Dame Day - twisteroo - 04-17-2010 I've never been a real big mustang fan. But I don't really like cars at all anymore. Is it just a bike you use? No1 son will be doublely sad for 17th then. His Shelby died during the night. Mustang Day it may have been but it was Shelby's day too. RE: April 17th---Nothing Like A Dame Day - twisteroo - 04-18-2010 I drive, I have to. It's our culture, we are designed as a nation to depend on autos and fossil fuel. I mean I could ride a bike 50 miles each way to buy a sofa at the furnitre store in the mall, but it just wouldn't make sense. I should live closer to work so I could ride bike or walk every day of the year, I would get rid of one car anyway and save a bunch of money every year. Sometimes I do ride 15 miles round trip to buy groceries or recycle cans or whatever. RE: April 17th---Nothing Like A Dame Day - Rhubarb - 04-18-2010 Maybe thats so, but its business that has made it that so. How did your grandparents buy a sofa? How did the shopping come home? Did you father travel the distances you do to get to work? I walk the half mile to work daily, twice, I usually go home for lunch. I left my job that involved an hour commute for one closer home. I walk to the shops when I can and as much as I love my cars and motorbikes I have invested in a Eco friendly car that already has saved me money with fuel and tax. I also feel my classic cars has earned its keep buy recycling itself with second hand spare parts (since new are not to be had) avoiding the need for manufactuer and therefore equally friendly to the environment by not getting used every day. I'm lucky, nothing is too far away, but a push bike? Forget it, you see the hills we have around here! RE: April 17th---Nothing Like A Dame Day - twisteroo - 04-18-2010 You know...a lot of people think that I'm a treehugger, I ride a bike, I drive a Prius. It's not so, I'm just cheap. You know how much we spend a year keeping a car on the road? Insurance, registration, gas, oil, repairs, etc, etc. I ride my bike to work like a tree hugging hippy just to put it to the man and fight the system. I sit on the back. I used one of those in The Netherlands, where it is flat enough. Pedalled like mad behind our family friend Wilfred with hubby puffing behind with a trailer towing the kids! RE: April 17th---Nothing Like A Dame Day - twisteroo - 04-18-2010 I do have a tandem, although it hasn't been used in years. It is a truck though, it probably weighs more than two riders. |
