New Guinea pigs - SarahK - 04-03-2010

Haven't been on for ages, because I've been up to my eyes with college work, but we're on Easter break now, so I figured I'd show you guys my new GP's.
They're golden agouti rex. We got them from a breeder, because I didn't want to buy from a pet shop and not know where they came from.

We've named them Nugget and Fudge, two boys. They have nice pretentious pedigree names too. We've built them a C&C cage -it's great for them, but a complete pain to clean. They've not really bonded with us yet, but then we've only had them a few weeks -any tips would be appreciated!

I like them already.

My brother had a female Rex also called Fudge. Much to his disappointment she never had any babies.

I've just changed the beds on 4 hutches and I don't know why Cooper and Cosworth always start bickering on clean out day. They gang up on the others, together, for the rest of the week!

Aww, cute. I usd to have a guinea pig. Here are a couple ideas for bonding. Sit outside the cage, just talking softly. Have the door open, and put your hand just inside, but ot touching them or in a threatening manner. Let them come to you. Put a carrot stick, or some sort of veggie treat in your hand. Also, wipe a dry cloth on your arms, and put it in the cage..let them get used to your scent.

I have been sitting with them alot, and they will eat carrot from my hand - I like the idea of the cloth, I will try that! Funny thing is they seem to like my 2 cats much more than they like me - even when the cats think I'm not looking and stick a paw in the cage, the piggies don't seem to mind! (I don't allow this, the kittens get squirted as soon as they do it, and they are not allowed in the piggies room unsupervised)

We have two male guinea pigs. Snowball and Rambo. Snowball constantly humps Rambo. Oh well.

They're great pets. Enjoy!

Cute lil critters. I had one when I was a kid and he used to sit in my shirt and watch TV with me.

When I sent all my boys to my parents while we were on holiday I did have some concerns with all the cats. She had two at the time and the neighbours has three who all liked my mum's raised garden. It's like cat chess at their place sometimes.

So- Felix pops over to take an interest in the GP's. My mum is sat supervising along with Oscar (who is actually worried sick about these additions to his lawn). Felix wanders round each pen and watches the constant grass cutting. Finally he pokes Mo' in the bottom with unclawed paw and bitterly regrets it. Mo' had spent a frustrated afternoon with Cooper who has been sniffing his bottom for the last hour. He snaps. Jumps round, and bites Felix's paw.

After that Felix, his sister, Tabitha and the kitten Kat, sit on the wall and watch in a row. They didn't come into the garden until I collected the boys two weeks later.

Ha ha! that is too funny - They look like helpless little fluff balls, it's easy to forget that they can defend themselves when pushed!

They're cage is in the study, so they can be closed off from the cats when I can't watch them, but I have build a covered play pen in the living room - we're gonna try that tonight. Its more open to kitties but they get to spend more time with the family, so we'll see how that goes!
