Here is some food for thought: many religions and their adherents practice circumcision as a rite and in line with the particular religion's tenets. To make any law regarding it, is to make a law with respect to religion (which could be anything depending on the person)? That could have major legal implications.
of course the parents should be able to make almost all medical decisions regarding their children. I don't think anybody is arguing against that.
However you count circumcision as something medical, which I don't. I guess the part of the argument is that some people view it as medical, while others see it as a purely cometstic thing.
To me, the only way it could be counted as being a medical matter is if the foreskin became infected. There is a less than 1% chance that circumcision will ever be medically necessary.
If only one out of a hundred boys will require circumcision later, why then should the remaining 99% be circumcised? you have to think about this part.
and if it's done for religious reasons, then I'm fine with that.
that's just if a parent isn't even religious and only wants it so that their baby can be "pretty" all over, then I don't see the point of that at all. You know what I'm saying? it's like that one mom injecting botox into her pre-teen daughters because she wants her daughters to be the prettiest ones at school so that they don't get picked on. It's just stupid and pointless to do it for that very reason.
I don't think that most of us are saying that there should be a law made against circumcision, we are just simply stating that we feel that it's immoral to do that to an baby if one aren't religious and if it was purely for comsteic purposes instead of for a genuine medical emergency.
espeically when you take into account that Your Child’s Health by Barton Schmitt reports one out of every 500 circumcisions results in a serious complication. Many things can go wrong including hemorrhage, infections and damage to the penis. More than one hundred baby boys die from circumcision each year in the United States. All of they could have lived if their parents had just said "No" to an unecessary surgery. Much of the harm from circumcision does not become apparent until adulthood.
hell, there are now more doctors who are against Circumcision because they now realize that it is really unnecessary. and causes needless pain to a baby... in fact they've even bebutted the myth that it's somehow easier for a baby than on an adult. you can read about it here. apparently adults have a better time with the circusimon sugery than a baby would had been.

I love how the men here twisted this subject to think any of us "non penised" folks are advocating some kind of ban, or intrusion into the private decisions of the parents.
Comparing cosmetic surgery to medical necessary procedures is laughable. And to claim making the penis prettier through circumcision is insane. There is nothing wrong with how a whole male looks.
So I just got off the phone with my mom - who just informed me that my dad was whole. I just had to ask because of all the "speculation" us advocates of keeping boys whole are being accused of. I figured this is a direct source of an honest answer. LOL She was a bit shocked that I even asked.
I asked her what prompted her to cut my brothers and she said that it was for health reasons. She was not prodded by the doctor though. She did not watch but she was and still is under the impression that babies have no feeling there. I asked her if dad ever had cleanliness issues being uncut and she said no. I asked her if he had to take any special precautions, any special methods of washing, anything different that made him "dirtier" than a cut male. Did she suffer yeast infections due to it? The answer is no. In fact, she has NEVER had a yeast infection in her life. Nothing smelly about him. NOTHING that said because he's nasty, they had to cut the boys. Confusing isn't it? I conclude they did it out of popular myth at the time. I wonder why my father never said leave them be since he wasn't cut? She never answered that. All she kept saying is that they just 'knew' this is what they wanted for health reasons.

I'm not in agreement with these folks that it should become some kind of law to stop parents as suggested here. I am for an honest discussion of the pros and cons from the doctor to the parents prior to making the decision. Actually, the mother's OBGYN should discuss this even before the child is born.

come on, surely that only applies to single parents who aren't married to each other and is no longer dating each other? or is divorced, for that matter.
I'm pretty sure that any rational married woman would want to involve her husband as part of the decision-making process. I know I would, if I was ever married... as seeing I see marriage as an equal partnership.

When you're speaking about pregnancy the woman has complete and total control of the fetus even to the point of having it pulled apart and vacuumed from here uterus.
I call them incubator laws because that is what a woman is, juts like the courts see the father of an unborn baby as a sperm donor men have been relegated to a sperm, i feel it only fair to relegate woman to that of an incubator.
she may ask her husband but if she decides different the father has ZERO influence.
Once the baby is born he can decide if he wants to pay child support by direct withdrawal or by check.
I find it comical that this video caused such intense feels of compassion for the baby, how about watching a video of a late tern abortion or for that matter one that falls to the edge of the line to be considered a normal abortion.
anyone who can be for womans rights in abortion and feel so disgusted by a circumcision has some real issues with reality.

You're wrong about the father's rights to the child when it's still in the womb. Maybe that is a state by state issue?
