Layla was based on a book (Layla and Majnun, also known as The Madman and Layla) by a 12th-century Persian poet called Nizami about a man who is in love with an unobtainable woman. The name, "Layla" served as, Clapton's inspiration for the title of Derek and the Dominos' famous album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs". Clapton's, Layla was, Patti Boyd...who just happened to be married to his friend, the late, George Harrison. The song was enhanced greatly by the producer (Tom Dowd) who brought in the late, Duane Allman on slide guitar. Over the years U.K. radio stations have been guilty of playing only half of this track by omitting the Coda ( the end part where it completely changes tempo, heralded in by the piano. . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5f4r9WwlKo .
