RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - LKTraz - 04-28-2010 This guitarist has made a niche out of covering songs in many generes (rock, classical, holiday songs) as instrumentals. He has a very decidedly hard rock/heavy metal style. At one point he tried out for a mainstream hard rock band and the lead guitarist told him that they wouldn't hire him because he would overshadow the lead player. Who is this guitar impresario? Bonus points for naming the threatened lead guitarist or his mainstream band. RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - BallseyMalone - 05-12-2010 Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore, Tony Macalpine, and many more came to mind when I read this one. But, I think my answer will have to be Gary Hoey. Threatened guitarist, Zak Wylde? Mainstream band Ozzy? RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - LKTraz - 05-14-2010 Damn son! You got the guitarist right. It is in fact the amazing Gary Hoey. No bonus points though. A bit of guitar "godliness"........ [yt]Nob1olsxVSc[/yt] Your turn Ballsey. RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - Twitchin Kitten - 05-14-2010 Ha ha! Hocus Pocus by Focus! The original guitars wasn't too shabby either and that mad yodeling! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLOKW01pvys&feature=related I guess they're still going too! Found this digging around YouTube- sadly the Thijs van Leer needs help with the high notes and lengthy high notes. Never the less, they still rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LW6v-mqo17Q&feature=related RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - LKTraz - 05-14-2010 Jan Akkerman is also still playing guitar. [yt]WnpvPTmUJC8[/yt] RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - BallseyMalone - 05-14-2010 This is gonna be a hard act to follow please give me a few.....(days) I WILL stump you LK! BTW, you cannot top Hocus Pocus by Focus! RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - LKTraz - 05-14-2010 Agreed. But Hoey does a great cover and Akkerman embellishes on his original lines quite nicely. RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - BallseyMalone - 05-14-2010 This was an unusual band insomuch as they had two lead guitarists and three lead vocalists. Every Friday, a Pittsburgh radio station plays one of their songs around 3:00 to signal the end of the work week. Their music has been featured in movies, tv commercials, and even a video game. Name the band Bonus points for naming deceased members and causes of death. Double points for naming a movie, tv commercial AND video game that their music is in. RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - LKTraz - 05-15-2010 Would this be a southern fried band? RE: Musical Who Am I/Are We - Twitchin Kitten - 05-15-2010 I can answer this for him cuz I know who it is - Nope. carry on. |
