This guitarist has made a niche out of covering songs in many generes (rock, classical, holiday songs) as instrumentals. He has a very decidedly hard rock/heavy metal style. At one point he tried out for a mainstream hard rock band and the lead guitarist told him that they wouldn't hire him because he would overshadow the lead player.
Who is this guitar impresario?

Agreed. But Hoey does a great cover and Akkerman embellishes on his original lines quite nicely.

This was an unusual band insomuch as they had two lead guitarists and three lead vocalists. Every Friday, a Pittsburgh radio station plays one of their songs around 3:00 to signal the end of the work week. Their music has been featured in movies, tv commercials, and even a video game.
Name the band
Bonus points for naming deceased members and causes of death.
