Part of the answer is:
You'll find that most of these situations are "created" and "solved" by people that are decidedly to the left in their line of thinking. These folks become so focused on the "problem at hand" that they will persue a "solution" with tunnel vision. Never mind that their solution creates collateral issues.
Once these issues arise these same people view them a separate problems from the initial one they "solved".

Oh yes.......they hold a concert to save the environment and they fly in 10 bands, truck in the stage, PA and lights (usually 6 - 10 trucks), bus in support crew and run typically 6 - 8 100 KW commercial diesel generators for power over and above the lines at the venue.
The attendees drive, ride busses or fly to the concert from all over creation.
NOOOOO CARBON FOOTPRINT THERE! [/sarc]
