Not sure how much money this site makes and I've tried web advertising a few times in the past and there's not much luck for me there.

I dunno. Maybe I'll ask him tomorrow.

youre not exposing the right niche, the people who sign up for necro sites like death pools are fascinated with death as a rule so youre reallygonna need to get in with like fangoria and pron sites that specialize in snuff knockoffs, if you want to keep them around, make a forum and cater to the gore crowd god damned if goregrish can be successful with that crew of faggots driving the boat you should have no troubles

This isn't really geared toward that kind of crowd.

But why bother with a forum for that kind of thing? How would Mybb be able to set up the casket system and keep track for you? Seems like that would be a lot of work with people whining and shit that their fave celeb isn't in there etc.

I'd like to start out with his database and all his stuff and go from there. For all we know it's simply a matter of him paying someone to fix the code and he just doesn't want to pay for what the person charges.

Well, having the db would be great. And if the code isn't bad, we could do it. Find out what the exact issue is and if he'd be willing to transfer it to you Wink

good plan

Except that you know nothing about writing code. If the code is poor, it is almost alwats better to start it over from scratch rather than trying to fix broken shit. It's almost always faster and more efficient.

this is 100% true but um welp didnt that guy have some backups pre-fuckup date? i mean if he's selling the site most of those pl wont care if they lose some stuff, its like if someone hacked this forum and it got reset to 2 months ago, would you quit posting or suck it up and move forward?

RE: DEATH POOL GONE! - ralgith - 01-07-2014

There is nothing wrong with his data as I understand it, just with the software Tongue

RE: DEATH POOL GONE! - TenFour - 01-07-2014

ok but wouldnt a restore to an earlier date fix the issue? Im an IDIOT about computers i function on common sense which rules me out for computer programmer, Democrat party politician, or female.

I could never be any of those

It may or may not. And depending on upgrades, reverting to an older version could damage his data if he does it wrong. All in all, it's really just a pain in the ass. Which is why it's often better to just re-write the software from scratch and write import routines for the old data in order to keep it if possible.

RE: DEATH POOL GONE! - TenFour - 01-08-2014

ok im thinking about this wrng, alls you need is the fucking domain name or whatever so the url from previous members' favorites list will still send them to that spot, then do whatever the fuck you want to.

is that the right way top approach this?

Sorta...

Basically this is:
Domain Name: Must Have
Members: Must Have
DB: Would be really nice, especially since it helps with Members
Software: If it's just a case of minor fixes, good idea. Otherwise, if it's a total cluster fuck, start over and do it right from the beginning.
