I looked at some of those Windows 8 computers at Staples the other day while buying a new chair. I am soooooo glad I'm not using Windows anymore. W8 is AWFUL!

If I were you, I'd consider something you can have built and put any OS you like in there. Again, Dylan is your man for this.

Around here having a comp built is not cheap. so doing something like that is beyond us. It would be lovely to do so but it's just not going to happen that way.

You don't do it around there. You talk to Dylan. That is what he does. Wink
Don't nix all options yet until you talk to Dylan.

Building a PC is very easy, I have built all of mine since about 2002, today it is all literally plug and play. However, this is for a laptop its not as simple. You can buy just the barebone they call it and or the chassis, but it ends up you will get less for your money when all said and done. I looked to do this a little time before I bought my laptop. Its just better all around to buy a laptop spec wise you like go onto newegg buy a system builders verison of windows 7 or whatever OS you like and install it over the 8.

Windows 8 is not a bad OS it is fast and efficient but it does this in a very different manner and the learning curve is high. I tired it for few mins in the store and hated it, I went to my friends place he has 8 on his computer. After using it for a few hours it was not bad once you got the hang of it all.

I Suggest buy the laptop you like and try it with 8 for a few days if you hate it,get the builders version like I mentioned.

Do you know what the builders version runs I am sure it is not cheap?
Just in case. I am very program savy so programs don't intimidate me. I had to learn all the systems when I was selling them AGES AND AGES mater of fact it was back in the dinosaur times back in the 80's ago.. I was just concerned that the 8 windows programs had severe glitch problems.

I would still talk to Dylan, Barb.

Anthony is right about things in this case. It really isn't cost effective to have a custom built laptop these days. As for screen size, browse around newegg, I only gave some examples. Find one you like there and I'll see where I can get it the cheapest. I can't always get cheaper than retail, but I never know until I have specifics to deal with.

System builder pack is always cheaper because it doesn't have the retail packaging and booklets and crap. Knowing Microsoft prices a new install of windows 7 is probably going around 90 dollars.

For Home Starter, which sucks. I wouldn't go less than Home Premium myself, and that's like $100-$120 still, depending on the retaier. Professional, which is what I actually use for myself is still $140. >_<

I can upgrade to mountain lion if I want for like $30.
